You Are A Pink Starburst

written by Becci November 1, 2015
You Are A Pink Starburst

“Never let anyone treat you like a yellow starburst, you are a pink starburst.”

When I saw this quote, I absolutely loved it and God spoke to me so much about our self-worth and how others and ourselves can demolish the value God has given to us.

I don’t know about you but I love the pink starburst, the purple ones are okay, the green I would take if I really wanted a sweet, but the yellow and the orange are just not acceptable to me, YUCK! Of course, some of you may love the yellow starburst, but my point is, God has made you unique and the best version of you (pink), therefore we must ensure we do not allow others to destroy this (and make us think we are like a yellow starburst).

How can this get destroyed? Well I know for me a lot of this was about insecurities and wanting to be this ‘pink starburst’ but never really feeling of that value. I probably felt a bit like a green starburst and through this low expectation of myself, regularly felt like a yellow! We can feel let down or betrayed by others. We can be called names by peers or even ourselves. If you look in the mirror and see a yellow starburst, you have forgotten, and perhaps not truly ever known, who God thinks you are. We have to remember the perspective of God, that is where our true identity lies.

But there’s GOOD NEWS! It says in Psalm 139:13: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Now at first glance, this could essentially be a verse that we just skim over as we may have heard it many times before. But when we really look and dwell on this verse it tells us so much. That God created every part of us, that he made us, knew us and was with us before we were even born and that we as individuals have been both fearfully and wonderfully made. I thank God that this is true for me and for you.

Another verse that I have been struck by comes from Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” We are God’s master piece! Wow, I don’t even think I could create something good enough to be called a master piece, yet that is what we are to God. Allow yourself to think about that. Do you feel that is true? Something I learnt recently is that things like this might be hard to feel, but you just have to know it and if you know it then you will live it. It is more than a feeling!

So how do these verses relate to not being a yellow starburst? Well, they tell us how unique, how loved, how cherished and how important we are to God, and if we are that special to God as an individual, then we should not settle for anything less.

This is an encouragement to be who you are and not who others may want you to be. You have been called by God as His child and His friend. Do not compromise and never forget your value rooted in him!
