Dance classes, video lessons, free courses, free workout videos. It seems like we have a lot available to us online right now. Which way do we turn? How can we find the time to take advantage of that Spanish course that has just been discounted, as well as all the free workouts?
During Lockdown there has been a rise in opportunities to take part in a whole host of online activities. It’s fantastic to see communities pulling together and creating spaces where we can all better ourselves, but it can feel a little overwhelming. It can seem like we have to take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way before it’s no longer around. But what if every opportunity is not ours to take?
Jeremiah 29:11 says:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This means that God has already gone before us and planned the steps and opportunities that He wants us to take. For some of us, maybe this isn’t a time for taking advantage of all the free courses and starting a side-hustle. Maybe God wants us to build on what we already know and to spend time with Him refining our character on a deeper and more meaningful level.
What if we could use this time to find rest in the Lord and peace within ourselves. Although it’s great to try new things, sometimes we need to be still, look at how far we have come and what we have accomplished and spend time with God to help us decide our next steps.
He has already planned a journey for us that is beyond our wildest dreams and that advances His kingdom here on earth. Rather than exhausting ourselves trying to do everything at once, sometimes it’s okay to rest in Him and let Him guide us in the right direction.
So instead of feeling overwhelmed, ask God to show you what opportunities He wants you to take, pray for guidance and if you feel Him prompting you in a certain direction, then go for it.
If the lockdown has shown us anything, it’s that there is beauty to be found in slowing down and smelling the roses!
