Exam Season: Dealing With Pressure

written by Laina May 11, 2016
Exam Season: Dealing With Pressure

“Yay, finally exams!!” – said no one ever.

Exam season can be a really frustrating, stressful, and exhausting time and here are a few pointers on how to go through the exam season and come out the other end smiling.

1) Before Anything…God

It seems very cliché but praying before, during, and after exams is very important. As you do your revision, pray for God’s wisdom and a gift of remembrance for God to help you retain and remember what you study. Proverbs 16:3 says: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans”

2) Plan Ahead

Have some sort of structure to your revision. We are all different and we all study differently, find what works for you and stick with it. Some people prefer a quiet atmosphere to study and some prefer to be around other people and discuss and debate with others but they key is to find the best method for yourself.

3) Ask for help

If you are struggling in a particular area, be bold enough to ask for help. There is no shame in not getting it or in asking for some guidance. Look for a guidance counsellor someone you can go to who is knowledgeable in the particular area you are studying. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, find someone who you can help in an area you are struggling with and you can help them in a different area as well.

4) Don’t Panic

Yes it is a very busy and stressful period but guess what, it is not the end of the world. Work hard, give it your best shot but do not lose your peace. Isaiah 26:3 says ‘you will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you”.

5) Take A Break

Go for a walk, watch your favourite tv show, take a short nap. Taking a breather helps concentration and also makes you assimilate information in a better way with a clear head so step away from your study area for a while and regroup

You can do it, all the best!
