Blood Is Thicker Than Water: Appreciating Your Family

written by Daniella April 7, 2017
Blood Is Thicker Than Water: Appreciating Your Family

I’m the oldest sibling out of four girls and I am not going to lie, I find my sisters annoying at times! I am sure I’m not the only one that gets annoyed by family, however the other day I was having a conversation with someone and whilst we were talking about life, I was reminded that instead of wishing I was away from my family most of the time, I should make an effort to appreciate them more!

In James 4: 14 it says;

“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes”

In this verse James is reminding us that our life on earth is just a short period of time. With that in mind, we should be inspired to forgive quickly and not to waste precious time holding grudges, especially against your loved ones!

“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” – Colossians 3:13

I know families may not be always perfect but there is a reason why you are placed your family. In some situations, your family may need you more than you think!

I love the story of Moses, most of you will know it but it goes a little something like this; Moses was born when the Israelites were slaves. Pharaoh didn’t like the Israelites (because he was scared they could overthrow the Egyptians) so he made a law that all the baby boys should be killed at birth. So Moses’ mother made a choice to hide him until she couldn’t anymore, and then placed him in a basket near in the river Nile.

Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses and adopted him as her own son, so he ended up being raised in the palace. After a series of events when Moses is older, he leaves Pharaoh’s palace and returns only to saves the Israelites. Moses’ family, and essentially his whole tribe, were relying on him to save them out of Egypt and lead them to the promised land.

Moses was placed into his family for a very unique purpose! It was no mistake that he was born when and where he was! The exact same way you are too, for your own unique purpose!

There are loads of examples in the Bible of God placing people in specific families for a divine reason. So, pray for your family daily, and if there are issues within your family, tell God about it and ask for His help! Appreciate your loved ones and remember that no matter what the situation, all things work for those who love God.

There is a reason why you are placed where you are!
