I don’t know about you, but so far, my 2019 is looking a little scary. If yours is too, then keep reading…
For you, it could be that this is the year that academic pressures are going to reach new heights, maybe it’s the year for a career change, or a big move to a new place. It could be that new relationships are about to blossom, or that you decide to call it quits on old relationships. Or perhaps it’s the thought of university lurking in the distance, and it’s terrifying you. Maybe your friendships are changing, maybe you’re changing.
Maybe for you 2019 is feeling like a make-or-break kind of year. The year you’re thrown into the deep end. The year full of things that have never been before.

It’s going to be that kind of year for me too, so I get what you’re facing. But way more importantly, so does God. He gets it. He see’s you. He’s got you.
Recently I took my friend’s little girl to my favourite beach to do a little bit of sand-dune exploring (I live on the Welsh coast, options of things to do with little ones are limited!) and over every hill, around every corner, across every new path she would say to me “Belle, you go first and tell me if it’s safe to come too”. And that’s exactly how we spent our afternoon of exploring, with me taking every step before her and letting her know that is was safe to follow.
As I was remembering that afternoon, it reminded me of this bible verse:
“Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” – Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT)
Pretty great verse right?
This is such great news for your 2019, because just like on my little beach adventure, God is always one step ahead of you, making plans, moving the pieces of your life around, preparing the way for you, and then He calls back and tells you that it’s safe to follow Him.
How wonderful is that?
So the thing that is filling you with worry and uncertainty, that change that you’re desperately wanting to put on hold, that big decision that is consuming your thoughts; God’s already in it, He’s gone before you.
He’s never going to leave you, He’s never going to let you down, He will be with you every step of the way, you can trust Him. When everything else feels like it’s changing, He never will. That’s just who He is.
So, what I’m trying to say is that you don’t need to be afraid of this year, or any year after this one. If you need to, get that thing that is worrying you in your mind right now and just simply pray; “You go first and tell me if it’s safe to come too”.
You don’t have to know where you’re going, you just have to know who goes before you.
