Winter can prove a difficult time for your skin with the freezing cold temperatures and eating extra chocolate for warmth.
Maybe you’ve been looking to commit or focus on a skincare routine, this is the perfect time to do so. These are some of the tips I would recommend, but just to be clear I’m no expert myself, just being a teenage girl who struggled with their skin this is what I’ve learnt and hopefully it can help you with your winter skincare too!
Moisture
Moisture is the main thing your skin is looking for in the colder months, it wants to be replenished. Finding a good facial moisturiser can be tricky and many of us are led to believe if we have oily, spot-prone skin that we don’t need one but this isn’t true! In some cases, the excess oils come from the lack of moisture so it is a good idea to not skip this step no matter your skin type. Do a little bit of research to find the best moisturiser for you, if you do have oily skin then an oil-free one should work best.
Another step that can help counteract the winter dryness is a hydrating face mask. Not only will this help your skin but it is a lovely way to pamper yourself and take some time to relax. If your skincare often feels like a chore, then a face mask might be a good introductory step that should help break you out of that mind-set.
Lips
One of the first things that takes a hit during the winter months is the lips, it can be uncomfortable when they become chapped. You can use a lip scrub or create one yourself, using online instructions, to exfoliate your lips and remove dead skin. This can be harsh on your lips if done too much, but once or twice a week can help make them feel softer. A good lip balm helps replenish your lips and put that moisture back into them. Hydration through drinking enough water will help keep your lips and skin feel healthier too!
Hydrate
Lastly, keeping your skin moisturised in general is a good way to protect against the cold. Making simple switches like a hydrating shower gel or taking the time use a body lotion afterwards – your skin will be grateful for the nourishment after being outside in the bitter cold.
There are lots of different body lotions available, some that are sprays or even some that have a tanning hint if that’s what you want! Choose the best one for your needs, whether you need one for sensitive skin or one that settles quickly so you can get ready in record timing.
Winter can play havoc with your skin, along with other factors and pressures, so hopefully this has given you some ideas for how to combat them. The problem with skincare is there is not one solution fits all, unfortunately, so don’t be discouraged if these do not work for you. Take comfort in God’s word, “You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you” – Song of Songs 4:7, and find what works for YOU!
