Who Are You? Find Out Here!

written by Belle November 30, 2018
Who Are You? Find Out Here!

My favourite verse in the whole entire Bible is in a book called Ephesians, and it goes like this –

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10

It straight away sounds pretty lovely, right?

And it is, it’s even more wonderful when you dig a little deeper into what that word ‘handiwork’ actually means for our every-day lives.

So here goes…

The word handiwork speaks into our identity, worth and purpose – the word has also been translated to mean God’s work of art, his skilfully chiselled sculpture or (and this one is my personal fav) His masterpiece.

That means that you, YES YOU, are God’s skilfully and thoughtfully created masterpiece. You right now, while you’re scrolling through this on your phone in the middle of a crowded room or reading this on your laptop while you’re trying to avoid studying- you right now, just as you are, are His masterpiece.

That’s big news.

That means that everything about you is intentional, everything about you is for a purpose – you’re a masterpiece (I’m just going to keep saying it ‘til it sinks in, okay?).

You don’t have to earn it, you don’t have to strive for it, it’s who you already are! There’s nothing that you can do that can stop God calling you His masterpiece, because the verse says that Jesus has already sealed the deal for you. It’s done.

You’re you, and that’s all you ever need to be.

The other thing about a masterpiece is that there can never be two the same, otherwise the art loses its unique value. Again, this is big news.

There is no-one in the world who can bring what you can to the table. There is no-one in human history who can play your part, and there never will be. You’re the only one of you happening to the world. You’re kind of a big deal.

There will be people in your life that have never stepped into a church, never heard of this verse, never known Jesus- but they’ve heard of you, they know your name, they’ve stepped into a room where you’ve been. And I’m guessing that was God’s plan, that’s why He’s made you to be His masterpiece.
A good masterpiece, a great work of art will always show a piece of the artist’s heart, it will always points people back to the maker. That’s you. That’s your role. That’s just who you are.

Someone needs you to show up today and be unapologetically the masterpiece that God created you to be, because if you don’t show the piece of God’s heart that He designed you to show, no-one else can show it for you.

As a masterpiece you can’t compare yourself to others, you need to just be you. You’re exactly what the world needs.
