Finding Your Purpose

written by Natasha July 16, 2017
Finding Your Purpose

What am I doing with my life? What does God expect from me? What is my purpose? These are all questions that we have probably asked ourselves at some point or another. Whether you’re graduating from university and out to find a graduate job, choose your GCSE’s or A Level options or even dealing with a “mid-life crisis”, here are some tips to try to navigate the stormy shores of finding your purpose.

What does God say in the Bible about your destiny?

Throughout the Bible, God promises us that the future of our lives are in His hands. Over and over He assures us that we are equipped to accomplish His plans and that our life is planned according to His will. How amazing is that!

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Whatever your purpose is, it’s perfect for you

Before you were even a thought in the universe, God predestined your purpose and planned your life to a T. You are not a mistake, and everything that happens is part of God’s plan. We often don’t see the bigger picture but God does. Whatever your purpose is in your life it will be perfect for you because God designed it specifically for you!

“My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before all of them came to be.” – Psalm 139: 15-16

Be courageous and trust in Him

You may feel as if you are walking in unmarked waters and unknown territories but God has commanded us to be courageous and bold. He didn’t ask us, or beg, He commanded us therefore it is in us to obey His will no matter how difficult or scary it may be. Remember Joshua? He was commanded to lead Israel in to the promised land. No doubt the fear He may have been feeling. Trying to live up to the expectations of his predecessor Moses. Nevertheless, He stood on God’s promises and led Israel in to victory, and in the same way God will lead you into success.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9

Do some research

I found that doing some research around what you think your purpose may be often helps. Make a list of the things you are good at coupled with what you enjoy doing and surf the net for some ideas. Check out our Youtube video all about discovering what your gifts are.

Your purpose is a life-long journey

Even though you may feel as if you haven’t found what it is you’re meant to be doing with your life, you are alive and living! You are living your purpose right now, by living according to God’s word and aligning yourself with His commands. So keep going and God will continue to reveal more to you along the way.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8-9
