To all my creatives out there, have you ever wondered how your faith and creativity can be intertwined? How do you balance your creative outlet and your belief in God? Can the two go together?
Believe it or not God is very creative. You just have to look at the world and His beautiful creation to know that. I used to have this notion that my faith and creative outlet (dance) couldn’t really mix, I didn’t want to impose my faith on others through my performances or choreography. But I have steadily come to realise that my faith in God is part of who I am as well as my creativeness being who I am, so obviously they will be interlinked, right?
In fact in Exodus 35:35, the author describes the creative talents that Bezalel and Oholiab had in artistic designs for the Tabernacle where God’s presence rested. They used their creative skill to worship God. Ephesians 2:10 says that we are God’s ‘handiwork’ and that we were ‘created in Christ Jesus to do good works’. These good works include our unique sets of talents, gifts and creativeness.
So I encourage you whatever creative skills you have – use it fearlessly. It is a gift and a form of worship to God and I’m sure He is absolutely loving it.
