At Girl Got Faith we are all about setting goals and targets and working hard to achieve them, but we also believe in the importance of rest and remembering to take a break!
When we are babies we take regular naps as our bodies are taking in so many new things every day, and we are developing and growing SUPER quickly, and then when we get to school we have breaks planned in every day. Even fitness fanatics that go to the gym all the time understand the importance of a good ol’ rest day. They can’t achieve their body goals successfully without rest days because they are essential in rebuilding muscles, nerves, bones and connective tissues (okay, we can stop with the science lesson…)
Rest and growth go hand-in-hand.
Sometimes in life we can get so caught up in our work, education, deadlines and to-do lists we forget we are human beings, not robots…and human beings need rest!
There’s a story in the bible, in Luke 10 that tells us about sisters Martha and Mary. Jesus came to visit them and Martha was so busy preparing what had to be made she didn’t have time to enjoy the moment and relax, whilst her sister Mary literally just sat at the feet of Jesus! So let’s take a few tips from Mary and realise that it’s okay to take a chill pill every now and then!
Everyone rests in different ways. Extroverts can often find that they like hanging out with friends to recharge, whereas introverts may prefer some time alone to read a good book or watch their favourite show. So go read that favourite book of yours, go to the movies with friends, listen to some of your favourite music, go and play some sports or play a video game or two, and if you are someone into planning, plan in this time to relax. But one thing we can ALL do is make sure we are always getting enough sleep. Its recommended we sleep for at least 7-8 hours according to the national sleep foundation, so get those hours in girl.
Whatever you like to do for fun make sure you do it and don’t feel bad for it. If you are struggling to think of something you can use the internet to help you! Search up 50 ways to take a break, pick a few and try them out. It’s beneficial emotionally, physically and mentally to take time to relax and take regular breaks.
