Hands up if you have ever posted a picture of yourself and deleted it because it didn’t get enough likes, or waited until a time when more people are online to post it…nope, just me then?!
I recently read a harrowing story in the newspaper about a 19 year old girl who committed suicide live on periscope. I don’t think there is a bigger cry for help than that. When living in such a world it breaks my heart and makes me wonder how we have come to such a place.
I wonder if she realised that she is loved and valued by the greatest one there ever was, the one who created the entire world we live in!
Whatever we do in life, wherever we go, it is my prayer that we realise that everything we do, we do for an audience of ONE, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. You might not get the likes, the accolades, the props, but if He approves of us, every other manmade sign of approval is fools gold, we already have the ultimate prize.
One of the best things about the God given approval is….you don’t have to work for it!
God told Jeremiah that before he was even conceived God had already chosen him and approved of Him (Jeremiah 1:5). We do not love God for what He is going to give us, but we love Him because he first loved us. It says in Romans 5 verse 8 that while we were still sinners He saw us and He loved us. What greater love is there than that?
Facebook now has reactions to posts; you can like, love, marvel or be sad when something is posted, I cringe to think of what would happen if there were a ‘boo’ option or a big fat ‘dislike’ button!
Social Media has provided us all with a platform to share our opinion whenever we like, however this can lead to us being really critical and it can become our way of life.
I have had to stop myself several times when I am scrolling through my social media feeds and all I can think of are negative observations on family and friends’ posts and pictures.
I encourage each and everyone of us to always realise our worth not based on society or our peers but based on who God says we are. If we are to get the kudos and approvals from men, that is an added bonus but let God’s approval be enough for us, because really and truly He is the only one who is worth impressing anyway.
Let us strive to live beyond the likes and comments!
