To my unseen self,
Over the years, from a teenager right up to the present day, I know there have been many moments of feeling “unseen.” Moments that have made you question if you really do bring value to the world. Moments that make it hard to believe in your worth. Even moments that make you wonder if it’s worth showing up for – would people notice if I wasn’t here?
But I want to tell you that you are seen. You are valued, wanted, cherished, appreciated and noticed. And the truth of this begins at the very start of your life:
“You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.” – Psalm 139:15-16
There are going to be moments where the negative feelings and thoughts are overwhelming and all consuming. Days when you’ve felt like the odd one out, you’ll face rejection from people you love, and experience times when you have to grit your teeth and take the high road. You’re going to have to fight inner battles that no one else can see. We weren’t promised a trouble free life, but we were promised a helper – the Holy Spirit. It’s going to be in these moments that he’s going to be right there alongside you, whispering hope to you – enough to get you through.

God already has, and will continue to bring people into your life, who will remind you of how wonderful you are when you can’t see it for yourself. Friends who care about who you are and want to spend time with you. People who do see the gold inside of you, and treasure it. The people He places in our life are part of His plan for us, they are part of the help he has already prepared for us along the way.
I know it’s easier said than done, and hindsight is a wonderful thing, but in those unseen moments where it’s dark and deep, remember that God sees you. He sees everything he is growing within you. He will always look at you with so much joy because he always has the utmost privilege of seeing the entirety of your beauty – from the seed to the full bloom.
