When life gets trickier, whether through illness, friendships, exams or other circumstances, I find it easy to shut down.
One of my natural positions is crying into cornflakes, being angry at God for not understanding and telling myself that I need to reign in stepping out for God because every time I do life goes crazy.
‘I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.’ – John 16:33
Not if, not maybe, but you will have trouble.
As a Christian you’ve not chosen an easy way out, or a trouble-free life. Your choice is an amazing one; to know God as a father and to be able to see the kingdom of God move in lives. But it doesn’t come without a cost. The enemy loves to come in and cause chaos, stop you from being the person God has made you to be and for you to doubt who God is.
The enemy would love us to believe that God won’t help us and for us to doubt the promises of the bible. He would love us to retreat and decide that following Jesus isn’t worth it. When you get hold of the truth that God won’t let you suffer more than you can handle, and you pray knowing that what you see in the bible you can see in your own life – your perspective changes. You move from anger to “God, I’m not letting you go until you come through”. You stop letting your circumstance shape your opinion of God and start using the amour of God to help you battle.
When I look up I see a God who is fighting for me and an enemy out to get me, I can choose to say ‘not today’ to what the enemy would want me to believe. It may not change the circumstance but it’s a statement of “I’m not backing down”.
Some days, even knowing this truth, it can still be hard to feel like you’re going it alone. That’s why God puts us in community so that when you don’t have the words to pray or the faith to believe, others can on your behalf.
If this is you today get someone to pray for you and find a bible promise to cling on to. Our father is totally for us, totally loves us and promises to never leave us.
Girls, that’s not just positive thinking it’s a real and sure hope that will get you through any messy, horrible or ugly day. Keep going!
