It is coming up to mine and my husband’s one year anniversary (I mean, where did a whole year go?!). A question I get asked a lot by girls is how to be content in singleness…almost as if once you get in to a relationship or get married you will suddenly be completely content.
Today I want to share how to be content no matter what your relationship status is!
In Philippians 4:11-13 it says;
“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.”
In those few verses we can see that Paul explains that contentment is not a certain stage of life, or something that is attained, but contentment is having a heart surrendered to God, no matter your circumstances.
So, here are my three top tips for being content no matter your relationship status!
Only God Can Complete You
Whether you are single, or in a relationship, know that no person will ever be able to meet all of your needs, or complete you. Only God can do that. God wants you to look to Him to satisfy you at ALL stages of your life. Whether you are with someone or not, the most important thing to learn is how to rely on God at that particular stage in your life.
There Will Always Be Something ‘More’
No matter what season of life you find yourself in, there will always be those ‘grass is greener’ moments. When you’re single you might want to get married, but a person who is married might be struggling with a career path, or might want to have children etc. Learning to be content during every season means learning to cherish every single day. Try not to compare yourself with what other people are doing.
Live YOUR best life
You do you! Walk out your own life of faith with God, and let Him teach and lead you! Throw yourself into every experience God brings you. Mission Trip? Leading in youth group? Volunteering with a charity? Pursuing further education? Do not let your identity be formed around your relationship status. Always spend time developing your relationship with God, no matter the season!
Always remember that in Jesus you will find the strength to be content no matter what is going on in your life!
