Is there such thing as ‘Monday Blues’? Like, is there something actually in the air that makes us all sadder on a Monday?
If you don’t know, Monday blues is a sad feeling people say they experience on Monday’s because they have to go back to work or school after a fun, restful stress-free weekend and the next weekend seems so far away! But does Monday blues actually exist or is it our perspective on life?
The first job I started after university was interesting. At first, I really liked it because I felt like I was making a difference in the school I was working in. But after a while, I started getting tired and I started to hate Mondays too!
I thought this was just the ‘Monday blues’ as people say, but eventually I realised it was actually my perspective. There was nothing wrong with Mondays or any other day of the week but it’s our mindset towards every day that makes the difference. I needed to remind myself that there was a reason I applied for this role and I shouldn’t let negative emotions cloud my mind.
Every day is a blessing. When God created the earth he didn’t create a day to hate! Therefore as Christians we must try not to fall into bad habits and mindsets that other people may have such as Monday blues, Tiring Tuesday and all of the rest.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” – Romans 12:2
There’s nothing wrong with Monday’s, but there is something wrong with our mindset!
Remember, not everyone has the opportunity to go to work, school or even to the local library. So when you are waking up on Monday and the negative thoughts start rolling in, tell yourself there is a reason for your existence, and there is a reason why you are in your specific school, workplace, or community!
“Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” – Colossians 3:1-2
