“For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous” – Romans 6:19
Life is made up of cause and effect, and often, when we choose to do what we want to do vs what we know is right, there can be big implications not only on ourselves, but those around us.
It’s crazy to think that the action of one man had such opposing and long lasting effects on the world! It almost doesn’t seem fair. Like pain in childbirth forever….whaaaaaat!
However, when God spoke to Adam in the garden, He specifically advised him not to eat from a particular tree:
“Of every tree of the garden you mat freely eat; but the tree of knowledge of good and evil, you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die”. Genesis 3:16 -17
The scripture shows that God made sufficient means in order for Adam and Eve to be fed and be full, giving them free reign on every other tree in the garden that bore fruit. Further in this passage, we see that the serpent approached Eve, and convinced her to eat the fruit from the one tree that God told them not to…. so she and Adam and both ate of it, letting their human desires take over their God given instruction.
Adam’s disobedience led the rest of humanity in to a bit of a mess! Now that’s what I call carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders!
Despite Adam’s lack of trust and faithfulness in what God had instructed, God was still compelled to save the world and so his rescue mission came in to place which would be to sacrifice His only son – Jesus!
Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection not only showed the supernatural supremacy of the Almighty God, it immediately meant that the dying, messed-up world now had the gift of life through His son, at no cost to us – what a freebie!!!
Self-reflection moment
- What situations might you find yourself tempted to do what you want to do rather than what you know is right?
- How can you ensure that your life is a positive reflection of how powerful and amazing God is?
