Burnt Out

written by Natasha September 6, 2016
Burnt Out

Have you ever felt overwhelmed with so many things to do? Or you keep giving yourself to people that need your help but there’s no one to hear your cry? How do you keep your strength going in the midst of trials that come your way? How do you stay ‘fire’ without being burnt out?

These are all questions and things I have been battling with recently.

People have described me as someone that encourages and gives great advice (not blowing my own trumpet here btw). I actually love to encourage people, especially in areas that I have struggled with myself, however this sometimes leads to me being the person that everyone seems to run to when they need help or advice. I love it that people are able to trust me enough to pour their hearts out to me, it is definitely a talent that I have been blessed with.

BUT

Sometimes in the midst of my own life’s dramas, busy schedules and deadlines it can be a little overwhelming, where do I run to when I have a problem? Who can give me advice when I need it? Who can pick me up when I’m down. I am blessed to have a very supportive network of people around me but if you don’t have that…Where can you turn?

G O D

Let’s have a little look into our life handbook and check out God’s promises for us:

Psalm 25: 16-21 The writer speaks of his anguish of being lonely and that the troubles of his heart has ‘multiplied’. It is important to realise that it is okay to cry out to God when you’re burnt out but also stay thankful and positive as you can.

Philippians 4:13 My all-time favourite verse in the whole universe. Repeat after me girls, ‘I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME!’. All your mental, physical and spiritual strength comes from God, not from you or other human beings, they are all temporary. Draw on His strength daily.

Galatians 6:9 ‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we DO NOT GIVE UP!’ Whatever talent you have been blessed with do it to the max, you might not see it today, or next week, or even in a year but know that you are storing up your riches in heaven and you will see the results on earth.

Romans 8:37 ‘No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us’. St. Paul encourages the Romans; and us too, that we are Spirit-filled, your burnt-out ‘ness’ is only temporary and will pass away, but you are more than conquerors…like, better than Alexander the Great lol!

There are so many books, verses and chapters that we could delve into about this topic, but the book of Job is a really good book to turn to when you feel burnt out.
