Be Your Own Beauty Queen

written by Ella April 7, 2016
Be Your Own Beauty Queen

We’ve picked out a few beauty queens from past and present and looked at the finesse they added to their faces! Have a peek at the below and see who matches your style for some makeup inspo!

Blair Waldorf

Undisputed Queen of the Upper East Side, Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) was nothing if not consistently pristine. She tended to stick to a nude eyeshadow with subtle liner and gentle mascara. She seemed to prefer blusher to bronzer/contouring and kept her lipstick a subtle pale pink for day-to-day. Her signature headband adorned loose curls and this girl was never afraid of a little sparkle to boost her beauty!

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita has often spoken out about the beauty standards placed on women, and how makeup is great but it is the inner beauty which “enflames the heart and enchants the soul”. She often goes barefaced and looks breath taking!

Marilyn Monroe

This fabulous movie star and icon of Hollywood forever enshrined the razor sharp winged eyeliner and bold red lipstick as a classic look. She kept her complexion matte and hair short to show off the angles of her face. Spritzed of course with some Chanel No. 5.

Audrey Hepburn

Another old Hollywood movie star eternally heralded as an icon of fashion and beauty, Audrey kept her look simpler. Keeping her hair swept back from her face in order to show off that jawline, she too had a penchant for winged eyeliner, but in a subtler manner with smaller flicks and a smokey background. She kept her lips colour free to, and made bold, angular eyebrows a thing before Cara Delavigne was even born.

Amandla Stenberg

Power teen, Amandla (who played Rue in The Hunger Games and let’s face it- made you cry) is an incredible spokeswoman for intersectional feminism and repeatedly shows the world the beauty she has! She often goes for winged eyeliner and a glossy lip with a slight contour and curled eyelashes. Who run the world?

 Amy Winehouse

For the more daring among you, Winehouse’s look was as unmistakable as her voice. With winged eyeliner to rival Cleopatra’s, a simple foundation base and glossy, pale lips, her facial features were accented in the most powerful way possible. Her big hair and love of bold accessories made her look unforgettable and unique.

Karlie Kloss

It girl of the moment and super model supreme, even Karlie doesn’t wake up looking like this. While her job entails a huge variety of makeup combinations, her go-to tends to be a pale pink lip with subtle eyeliner on top of nude eyeshadows and a reliance on bronzer.

Zendaya Coleman

This modern millenial power girl is known for changing up her look in the most flawless of fashions. That mullet at the oscars was increible! However, her staple tends to be beautifully shaped eyebrows with a hint of contouring as a base. A greyish eyeshadow and simple eyeliner with a matte lip. Never failing to look stunning while speaking out on important issues such as race and sisterhood!

Carrie Bradshaw

Shoe queen of New York City, Carrie’s hair was one of her greatest features- keeping it big and curly in a chic throwback to the 90s perm. She tended to stay away from the winged eyeliner but worked a smokey eyeshadow and pink lip. She also tended to use blushed to lift her jawline and made a feature of her beauty mark on her chin- showing that there’s no such thing as flaws, just fabulous.
