Step Out

written by Ruth November 12, 2015
Step Out

This video is hilarious; it’s one of those precious moments in which children provide utter hilarity. But, watching this clip makes me think at what age did it we feel we had to be sheep and stand in line? What age did it stop being ok to step out and do something different from the rest?

Just for a moment, do you ever want to just do something different – to express yourself in a way that is a little ‘out there’ and crazy? Even the thought of it is refreshing. Have we put ourselves in little ‘boxes’, confining ourselves to life ‘norms’ and limiting ourselves through boundaries of what we think is acceptable? In doing this, have we lost some of our individuality, some of the buzz and umph that makes us, us?

Jesus talks about us having child-like faith (Matthew 18:2-4). What if we took this into our actions and our behaviours? I’m not saying go completely whacky but just not to care about what others think, not to be afraid to step out and do something a little different. Is there something you know God is prodding you in – maybe talking to that person on the bus, standing up for the girl everyone else laughs at or praying with someone. Let’s be girls who fearlessly serve our God, who see the world not as daunting but an exciting adventure that has no boundaries. Remember God says he will never leave you or forsake you. He will equip you in anything and everything He is asking you to do.

Consider a child you know, observe them and see how they express themselves fearlessly. This little girl gets it, she doesn’t have a care in the world and I think there’s a lot we can learn from her.
