Be Still And Know That He Is God

written by Destiny Bright February 6, 2018
Be Still And Know That He Is God

In a world that is constantly moving it’s easy to get swept up in the hustle and bustle of daily living. Everyone is busy with something, whether it’s work, studies or a hobby. The pressure to succeed in whatever we do is reinforced by society; which makes it is easy to feel discouraged, and when times get tough we start to wonder where God is.

One of my favourite verses in the Bible is Psalms 46:10 (NLT):

“Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honoured by every nation. I will be honoured throughout the world.”

This verse really made me think, what does it mean to be still and know that He is God?

Being still seems like a simple enough instruction, but often the hardest thing to do is to stand back and do nothing. Being still requires trust and unshakeable faith. God commands us to be still, not because He doesn’t want us to progress – in fact, it’s the opposite! He wants us to remain still so that we can let Him move on our behalf.

By consciously taking a step back you are saying ‘God I trust you with my life, I know you love me and you only have my best interests at heart. I can’t do this alone, I need your help’. God is moved by our faith and there is no greater demonstration of that than allowing God to sort out whatever issue you are currently facing.

Being still is an opportunity for God to be honoured through you. He is our peace, and when things appear difficult, allowing God to console you will deepen your relationship with Him.

Letting God play an active part in your decisions starts from your heart but is reinforced through prayer and spending time with Him. A lot of people struggle to fit God into their day but everyone has to start from somewhere, commit to what you can, even if that is only 5 minutes.

Turn off your phone, remove yourself from distractions and use that time to focus on God – both on who He is and what He means to you. In those quiet moments you will receive such clarity and soon you will realise that being still and trusting God brings you much more peace than trying to figure it all out on your own.

I hope you find comfort in knowing that it is okay to let go and let God.
