“A woman’s heart should be so hidden in God that a man has to seek Him to find her”
I recently stumbled across this famous quote by Maya Angelou, and it inspired and challenged me, both mentally and spiritually.
What does it mean to be ‘hidden?’
To be hidden means to be concealed or kept out of sight. As Christians, God is our hiding place.
“You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. ” – Psalm 32:7.
God is our shelter, not only for when things are bad but also when times are good. Our hearts can be ‘hidden’ or ‘shielded’ in the truth and goodness of who God is.
The heart of a woman is so precious to God, so we must take care of our hearts!
First and foremost, we should love God. Jesus tells us in Matthew 22:37 that this is the greatest commandment in the Bible – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Proverbs 4:23 tells you to “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
If our hearts determine the course of our life we should keep ourselves in check, always trying to maintain good thoughts and giving no time to negative ones, and be careful with what or who we place our affections on. We are called to love others (Matthew 22:39) but there may be some people that it is better for you to love from a distance so they don’t change the condition of your heart and character in a negative way.
For some of us, we may not have anyone in our lives that we must love from a distance, but instead it may be that we are trying to love everyone a little too close! It’s so easy to idolise the idea of having a relationship, especially seeing so many couples YouTube channels these days! but we shouldn’t desire anything more than we desire God.
“Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.” – 1 John 5:21
Matthew 6:33 tells us to seek God’s kingdom first and all other things will follow.
If you seek God first – with your whole heart – then the relationship that you want will come to you in Gods perfect timing, but you must trust and believe the promises that God has made concerning your life. God will lead you on the right path and if it is in His plan, you will meet the right guy along the way.
So, for now, enjoy the journey of getting closer to your creator! God loves it when we pursue His heart!
Not everyone is for you, and that’s okay! The important thing is that you allow God to lead and guide your path (Luke 9:23) – put God’s will first, He knows best.
