Since you were four years old you’ve been in education. You’ve gone all the way through junior school and now you’re either in, or have finished, secondary school. You probably know what’s coming next because it’s pretty much mapped out for you. Maybe it’s sixth form? College? Uni? Then get a proper job?
These are all great things, but along the way it’s important to listen to your heart when there’s something that excites you or you feel passionate about. You don’t have to follow the path of college, uni, career, if you have other things you want to do! It’s easy to get swept up in life without really living your own version of it.
Start by asking God what He has put on your heart to do. What gifts and talents has He given you that you would like to explore?
Take a blank piece of paper and write out a bucket list! (A bucket list is a wish list of all the things you would love to do over a set period of time). Don’t worry, your list isn’t a binding contract that you have to stick to. We all change our minds every now and again. But writing out a list is a good way of working out what you are really interested in. Also, you are 80% more likely to do something if you write it down apparently!
Maybe you want to spend time in another country? What country? A few countries? How long for?
Or you may want to do a sky dive, swim with sharks, meet your favourite celebrity, write a book, make a new friend…
Whatever they are, the things you want to do are important and God thinks they are too. He gives us desires in our hearts that are unique to us! So it’s our duty to not get caught up in the life that you think you ‘should’ have but instead be YOU, because nobody else can be.
Let’s be dreamers and planners, but ultimately let’s trust God that he only has plan A for your life!
“The heart of man plans his way but the Lord establishes his steps.” – Proverbs 16:9
