Worried About Your Future?

written by Daniella July 9, 2017
Worried About Your Future?

We are half way through 2017, summer is here and the academic year is coming to an end. It’s an exciting time to be alive! But with all the excitement that this time of year brings, there comes some anticipation about what lies ahead.

Whether it’s a change in schools, university, entering the world of work, or something else, it can be easy to spend all your time thinking about your future!

There are many options to take, and if you don’t know what you want to do it can be super frustrating.

But do not panic or stress! In the bible Jesus says;

“So do not worry, saying, ‘what shall we eat?’ ‘what shall we drink? or ‘what shall we wear?'” – Matthew 6:31

If we aren’t meant to worry about these things, which are actually quite important, then we can be certain that Jesus doesn’t want us to worry about our future either.

If you are unsure of what you want to do with your future, here are some helpful tips that may help you decide, or will at least give you peace even in your not-knowing:

Pray about your future.

God knows your future. One of the most encouraging pieces of scripture is on this very topic:

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” – Jeremiah 29:11

If you put your future in God’s hands it’s in safe hands. It doesn’t mean that you won’t go through hard times but He will get you through them and He will make all things work together for good!

Keep doing what you enjoy

It can be anything from writing, singing, dancing, acting or just giving to people in whatever way you love. Many people have turned what they enjoy doing in to a career, and how wonderful that would be! When you do what you enjoy, Monday mornings aren’t so bad, you’ll be willing to put in all the time it needs, and you’ll get a lot of satisfaction from your work! If you don’t have anything in particular you like doing, ask your friends and family what you are naturally good at… you might be surprised what they say. You could also check out our YouTube video about discovering what your gifts are!

Keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to try new things

Try out volunteering in your community, work shadowing different people or even look into travelling abroad to help teach English. Speak to various people about their career paths and ask for advice. You may be surprised what opportunities could pop up and what you may learn about different sectors of work!

I hope this helps you, and remember God’s plans are the best plans. Trust in Him with all your heart and He will not fail you!

Hi, I love this post it was very helpful. I have one question, if you’re interested in multiple things, how do you make the firm decision which field to go into? and is there any way to fuse all the creative things I’m interested in together, in one job?

Hey that’s a good question
I think it depends on the things you are interested in. Some things go well together and some things may require more time to work together. I would say for now go with what you are most passionate about and you can do now. But also pray about it, so God can give you clarity and direction. Whatever you do, do it with excellence and God will make all things work for your good. Hope my answer is helpful
