Genuine friendships can be very difficult to find. It can feel like trying to spot a needle in a haystack or fish out cash from down the back of your sofa. However, once you’ve found a friend that you can call your homie, your sistaaa, the missing pea in your pod, it’s truly magical!
Strong friendships are an essential part of life; we wouldn’t function properly without them! Here are 5 ways to know you’ve found a friend for life:
- They experience the good, the bad and the ugly
With social media outlets like Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook, we’re able to capture life’s best moments. However, our followers don’t see the times when we’re struggling with what life’s thrown our way, when we’re down and out, or when our emotions are running ridiculously high and we’re ready to punch someone. A true friend sees everything. They’re there to support you through it all, providing that shoulder to cry on, the tissue to blow your nose with or that ear to rant into. This type of friend is one in a million.
- You can insult one another without causing offence (within reason of course!)
The types of friendships we’re describing here go beyond your standard ‘cute’ kinda interactions. Some friendships give space for insulting and mickey-taking in all its glory! One of my best friends and I literally insult one another from the moment we meet until it’s time to go our separate ways and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
- 99% of your time together is spent laughing
A sweet friendship is nothing without bag loads of banter. Time spent with a good friend is filled with full on belly laughs and streams of tears from cackling too hard! There’s nothing like a friend who can always put you in a happy mood.
- They’re your cheerleader for life
A good friend encourages you in all your life endeavours and supports you all the way. It’s amazing to have someone to call when you do brilliantly on that dreaded exam, encourage you to chase your dreams, or celebrate with you when you get that job you’ve always wanted. Friends that cheer you on and share in your successes are very special indeed.
- You can’t imagine life without them
It’s crazy to think that you’ve ever not been friends with certain folks and you know that you’ll still be hanging out with them even when you’re wrinkly and old. Yes, your age, agility and ability to remember things may change, but your bond will forever remain the same. Hold onto such friends with all your might!
